- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 1-2 green chilies, finely chopped (optional)
- 1 small tomato, finely chopped
- 1/4 cup finely chopped coriander leaves
- 1 teaspoon grated ginger
- 1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds
- Salt to taste
- A pinch of turmeric powder
- Water, as needed
- Oil for cooking
Instructions:
- Prepare the Batter: Drain the soaked moong dal and blend it into a smooth batter with a little water in a blender. The batter should be of pouring consistency, similar to pancake batter.
- Mix Ingredients: Transfer the batter to a bowl and add chopped onions, green chilies, tomatoes, coriander leaves, grated ginger, cumin seeds, salt, and turmeric powder. Mix well.
- Heat the Pan: Heat a non-stick pan or griddle over medium heat and lightly grease it with oil.
- Cook the Cheela: Pour a ladleful of batter onto the pan and spread it in a circular motion to form a thin pancake. Drizzle a few drops of oil around the edges.
- Flip and Cook: Cook until the edges start to lift and the bottom is golden brown. Flip the cheela and cook the other side until golden brown and cooked through.
- Serve: Serve hot with chutney or yogurt.
